The "Mora Thavmata" (Miracle Babies) Association donates to the state the first and only Neonatal & Paediatric Ambulance
During a solemn ceremony held on Friday 6/11/2020 at the Presidential Palace, in the presence of the President of the Republic, Ministers, Members of Parliament and other dignitaries, the "Mora Thavmata" (Miracle Babies) Association delivered to the President of the Republic, a state-of-the-art ambulance specially designed for premature babies, newborns with health problems, children and pregnant women, worth 300,000 euros.
The ambulance is one of the most modern and technologically upgraded ambulances available in Europe, as it is of new generation and certified according to the European Ambulance Standard EN1789. It was designed by Ambuline with the support of the Cyprus Ambulance Services, in order to be ergonomic, spacious and to enable the staff to work safety, efficiently, comfortably and under any conditions that may prevail during the transport of the patient. This ambulance, with its equipment and technology, will provide specialized and high quality care to all newborns, children and pregnant women in Cyprus.
In his address, the President of the Republic expressed the grateful thanks of the State and citizens to the President and the members of the Board of Directors of the "Mora Thavmata" (Miracle Babies) Association, not only for the purchase of the ambulance, but especially for their overall activity. He also mentioned that the optimal upgrading and expansion, as soon as possible, of the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit of the Makarios Hospital is being thoroughly studied.
The President of the Association, Elena Megalemou Triandafyllidou, said that thanks to the close cooperation between the Ministry of Health and the "Mora Thavmata" (Miracle Babies) Association, A great goal became a reality. She stressed that the 6th of November 2020 is an important milestone in the Association's course and that from now on the "Miracle Babies" will be safely transported to and from the special Intensive Care Units of the Arch. Makarios III Hospital in Nicosia and the Limassol General Hospital. She thanked OPAP Cyprus for the generous sponsorship of 100,000 euros, as well as the people for their contributions and their love for the Association. Finally, she thanked all the state institutions that support the vision of the Association, which is the upgrading and expansion of the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit.
The European Union Commissioner Stella Kyriakidou, as a grandmother of a premature baby and former President of the "Mora Thavmata" (Miracle Babies) Association, made a video intervention at the ceremony, thanking the President and the members of the Board of Directors for achieving the great goal and expressing her regret for not being able to attend the important day of the Association.
Then Mr. Dimitris Aletraris, CEO of OPAP Cyprus, as a major sponsor of the purchase of the neonatal and paediatric ambulance, gave a short speech.
Following the short ceremony, the President of the Association delivered the key of the ambulance to the President of the Republic.
During the ceremony, all protective measures against coronavirus were observed.
