Laying of the foundation stone for the project of upgrading and expansion of the ICU: The vision of the Mora Thavmata (Miracle Babies) Association has finally become reality.
The laying of the foundation stone for the upgrading and expansion of the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit, of the Arch. Makarios III Hospital in Nicosia was a historic moment for the Mora Thavmata (Miracle Babies) Association, the premature babies, their families and the Medical and Nursing Staff of the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU). The upgrading and expansion of the NICU has been the vision of the Mora Thavmata (Miracle Babies) Association since 2015, the year of its foundation.
Today, with much love, patience, perseverance and difficult battles, it is being realized.
The foundation stone was laid on Wednesday, June 12th by the President of the Republic Mr. Nikos Christodoulides and the ceremony was attended by the Archbishop of Cyprus George, Ministers, Members of Parliament, as well as state officials who contributed to the implementation of the new NICU.
The President of the Association, Elena Megalemou Triantafyllidi, warmly thanked in her speech the Minister of Health, Michael Damianos, the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Health, Dr Christina Yiannaki and the member of the European Parliament and former Minister of Health, Michalis Hadjipantela for his assistance and support as well as the SHSO for the excellent collaboration. She particularly thanked the team of Designers/Consultants who worked on the preparation of the plans based on the instructions of the SHSO and the Auditor General in order to be delivered to the State through the Association in the form of a donation.
Furthermore, the architectural office Athos Dikaios and Associates who prepared the plans of the NICU, which were donated to SHSO, the architectural office I & A Philippou and the company GEMAC, who will offer their services pro bono for the completion of the project.
The NICU, at a total cost of more than €6.5 million, is expected to be completed in September 2025.
